About John Hinton: After graduating Law School in 1987, John Hinton studied tax law at New York University Law School earning a second law degree in tax law (LLM in Taxation) in 1988. Since then he has appeared before the Internal Revenue Service, state tax authorities, the United States Tax Court, the United States District Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Idaho Board of Tax Appeals and other state Courts, all to obtain tax relief for his clients.

Notable public cases include: Jones v. United States, where a United States District Judge awarded to Mr. Hinton’s client a restraining order against the Internal Revenue Service preventing the IRS from forcibly collecting taxes (overcoming the Anti-Injunction Act) and making way for a seven figure tax refund and multiple million dollar reduction in taxes; United States v. Hegg, where Mr. Hinton defended a former high ranking government executive accused of obtaining millions of dollars in false refunds, resulting in acquittal of the majority of counts; Henderson v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue, a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals case which helped to define the concept of "tax home;" Ada County Board Of Equalization v. St. Michael's Carnegie, LLC, where a ruling in favor of Mr. Hinton's client set new precedent benefiting churches and other charitable organizations.

Through private settlements and administrative proceedings, Mr. Hinton’s clients have saved millions of dollars in taxes.

Mr. Hinton also provides tax and legal advice on entity formation, partnership special allocations, reorganizations, nonprofit organizations, private placement offerings, nontypical 1031 exchanges, commodity pooling funds. and business transactions of all types.

John Hinton is a coauthor and editor of the Handbook for Idaho Nonprofit Corporations; Contributing author of Guide to Forming Tennessee Limited Liability Companies; Author "Partnership Allocation Rules and the Limited Liability Company", published in the Idaho State Bar Corporate & Securities Newsletter; Contributor to the Advocate, a publication of the Idaho State Bar. He has spoken to other lawyers as a Continuing legal education presenter in Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Texas, Arizona and Vermont.
